If you’ve never spun lambswool, give this a try! This roving represents the softness of that first shearing in a combination of 5 breeds of sheep coveted by handspinners: Shetland, Dorset, Il de France, Corriedale, and Coopworth. An interesting combination with an incredible result! The lambs who donated this wool are American-raised on a small family farm in Wisconsin where they are lovingly raised and humanely sheared.
This wool was carefully sheared and skirted to remove soiled fiber and vegetative matter. The fiber was processed at a LEED-certified mill in North Carolina that utilizes eco-friendly solutions like solar power and sustainable materials. It was washed gently with a plant-based cleanser — never bleached! The resulting roving was then hand dyed for a light, soft, and easy to spin roving in great shades of red and white (with the occasional pop of light purple) – a colorway that we call “Peppermint Swirl.” I use only food grade dyes so that your fiber is not only safe, but is undamaged by harsh chemicals — no phosphates, copper, or harsh mordants. Once dyed, the fiber is washed several times in hot water with all natural soap and air dried. The resulting yarn will be non-toxic and colorfast and vibrant! This listing is for 4 ounces of handy dyed lambswool roving in the “Peppermint Swirl” colorway and has been neatly braided. Hand wash in cold water, lay flat to dry.
This wool does felt. To see my full selection of spinning fibers, check out my shop section labeled Roving, Spinning Fiber.
